It's what we do.

It’s not what you say, it’s what you do … and how you do it. We take this very much to heart every day in making sure Shaw operations are running safely, smoothly and sustainably.

  • Ensuring Shaw's operations are running safely, smoothly and sustainably.
  • Powered by progress.

Climate Change and GHGs

Climate change is a complex, global issue that requires a global response. No one person, organization or corporation can solve it alone. Collective action has a cumulative positive effect.

We're proud to have reduced our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions — Scope 1 and Scope 2 — by more than 60% compared to 2010. Our goal: achieve net zero enterprise operations by 2030.

Shaw’s strategy is to first reduce our energy consumption, then switch to cleaner fuels; to produce renewable energy at our own facilities; and to incentivize additional renewable energy development and usage through the purchase of renewable energy credits.

We have achieved carbon neutrality in our commercial carpet operations worldwide since 2018, including those for Patcraft, Philadelphia Commercial, Shaw Contract and STS. Powered by progress, Shaw is committed to sustaining human ability through our focus on climate change and GHGs.

Supply Chain Management

Shaw manufactures many of our own products and ingredient materials, employing efficient use of materials and natural resources, using alternative and renewable energy sources when possible, and designing and operating our facilities and manufacturing processes in accordance with widely recognized sustainability and safety standards.

We also rely upon strategic supplier partnerships to ensure we can offer our customers an expansive portfolio of products. We work with trusted partners to fulfill a variety of business operations from temporary staffing to machine parts. These 4,300-plus suppliers are critical to our operations and serve as an extension of our sustainability strategy so we expect these suppliers to maintain the same high standards that we set for ourselves. Shaw verifies that our products, regardless of where or by whom they are manufactured, meet stringent guidelines and our customers’ expectations so we can minimize our impact on the planet and maximize human potential.

Shaw is a signatory to the UN Global Compact,a widely recognized set of principles focused on upholding and protecting human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption standards. Since 2018, our sustainable sourcing policy has incorporated the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact, as well as Cradle to Cradle design principles — bringing even greater transparency into our supply chain by requiring disclosures about the ingredients that go into the products we make and sell.

  • Making an impact.

PFAS Approach

PFAS (perfluoroalkyl or polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a group of nearly 15,000 chemicals that have been used in a wide range of industrial applications since the 1940s. Today, they are still found in hundreds of everyday products — from soaps and food containers to cosmetics and clothing.

However, Shaw stopped using PFOS-based soil and water repellents in 2001 and PFOA-based soil and water repellent chemistries in 2008. We discontinued the use of all PFAS-based soil resistant compounds in our U.S. carpet manufacturing by January 2019 — and in all our carpet manufacturing operations globally by mid-2020.

As part of this effort, Shaw contractually requires third-party suppliers to provide raw materials that do not contain PFAS; and Shaw exercises ongoing vigilance and systematic testing of ingredients used in our manufacturing processes. When we determined that conventional PFAS testing methods did not accurately detect PFAS in soaps, oils, resins, and other solid materials, we invented a new sample preparation methodology. This innovation has helped Shaw keep PFAS out of our operations and out of others’ — within the flooring industry and beyond — who use the same materials we do.

  • Less is more.

Waste

Shaw's commitment to a more circular economy means continuously seeking new ways to minimize waste and maximize the use of recycled materials.

We consistently categorize, measure and channel waste toward the best possible use, whether repurposed within our own manufacturing processes or used by other industries. This ongoing effort helps us identify areas for improvement, driving us toward even greater waste reduction.

In 2025, our landfill waste intensity was 2.88%. And recycled materials make up more than 18% (by weight) of what goes into manufacturing Shaw’s products. That includes turning more than 1 billion recycled plastic bottles into flooring last year.
  • Every drop counts.

Water

When it comes to conserving water, every drop counts.

Water conservation is a universal issue that Shaw prioritizes in our manufacturing processes, especially considering that many of our facilities operate where local water scarcity is not a future threat, but a current reality.

We have made substantial progress in reducing water use across our operations and manufacturing processes over the past two decades. After achieving our 2030 goal of a 50% reduction in water intensity six years early, we set a new target of 60% compared to our 2010 baseline. In 2025, we reached a 58% reduction in water intensity, putting us well on track to meet that goal.

Additionally, our commitment to people and the planet extends  to protecting natural resources. The Cradle to Cradle Certified Products Program requires manufacturers  to report water usage and assess chemicals used in product manufacturing for their potential impact on water quality. Further, the Cradle to Cradle certification mandates that manufacturers research ecosystem health, identify watershed threats near production sites, and demonstrate effective management practices to prevent industrial contamination.

  • Building smart, building sustainable.
